Jesus specifically states that HE is the Good Shepherd with more than one fold (John 10), establishing his authority over the entire flock of God and giving his life for their safety. Jesus is the head of the church (Col 1:18); however, he charges Peter (John 21:16) to Feed My Sheep.
The word "pastor" derives from Latin and means "shepherd". Pastors are those given to help guide and feed the sheep. 1 Peter 5:1-3 has this charge: The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: 2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being examples to the flock.
The term deacon or diaconate is derived from the Greek word diákonos (διάκονος),and means, servant, minister or messenger. These servants of the church should be known by their good reputation in the community. A reputation that includes wisdom, love and being “full of the Holy Spirit”.
The call – Acts 6:1-6
The qualities – I Timothy 3:1-16
Our faith is asserted through our praise; therefore, praise is a POWER part of worship. If we look at this history of praise, the Hebrew scripture introduces us to “praise” via Judah. Leah, the first wife of Jacob by trickery was unloved. After giving birth to three sons, (Genesis 29:35a) she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the Lord: therefore she called his name Judah. The name expresses Leah’s praise to god and gratitude for bearing children for Jacob.
Judah/Praise has preeminence!
When Israel had to go to war during the time of the Judges, God usually directed – ‘send up Judah first’. (Judges 1:1-2, 20:18). From this, we can establish that praise is paramount as it sets a tone.
Today, we sing songs and hymns as a congregation, or as choirs, with or without instrumental accompaniment, clapping and lifted hands. No matter the type, the praise and songs should
1. focus on God’s grace and mercy toward mankind,
2. Christ’s finished work on the cross, and
3. touch the heart of believers, establishing an atmosphere of Godly worship.
By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. Hebrews 13:15 (KJV)
Serving as doorkeepers, Ushers are tasked with a number of other important tasks in the sanctuary and during worship.
Additional duties include: maintaining order, security, seating, inspecting and clearing seats before and after service. Ushers provide worshippers with fans, envelopes, programs, transport messages, direct movement during the offering period and provide general hospitality.
Hospitality tends to lead the more personal WELCOME for first-time visitors. Their goal is to extend warmth through words and deeds as they greet visitors at the door. Ushers and hospitality aid in showing guests the layout of the church facility: the sanctuary, restroom location, water stations, etc.
Though all members make up the "hospitality" of the church, the Hospitality ministry are the honored volunteers whose goal is to ensure that everyone feels welcome at God's House.
Nurses help ensure that medical emergency situations at the church are handled expediently and in accordance with proper medical protocol. Please adhere to the directions of and provide assistance (as directed) to the nurse(s) in case of a medical emergency for yourself or a fellow worshipper.
